Toyota has been around for a long time and makes some of the most popular cars in the world. They produce approximately 10 million vehicles yearly, and they will only continue growing as more people want cars. Read on to learn some fun facts that you may not know about Toyota.
The Korean War
While Toyota has been around since 1937, it was not always successful. In fact, it was on the verge of bankruptcy early in its operation. In the 1950s, Toyota only produced a few hundred trucks each year. Demand declined, especially after World War II, but the US government stepped in and helped. During the 1950s, the US became involved in the Korean War. Instead of shipping vehicles from overseas, the US government contracted Toyota to produce over 5,000 vehicles for them, cutting down their own expenses and bringing Toyota back to relevancy.
Toyota Did Not Begin With Cars
One of the most exciting things about Toyota is that, while they have become one of the biggest car manufacturers in the world, they did not start with cars. The Toyota Corolla is seen all over the world, but another Toyota product you’ll find in many businesses worldwide is the automated loom. Toyota began in the automated loom business and expanded into automobiles. An interesting thing to note is that while they are an automotive titan, they still haven’t closed their textile business.
Toyota City
Because Toyota is one of the largest companies in Japan, it has a lot of prestige. In 1959, it was the most successful business in the country. To celebrate, the Japanese city of Korona adopted a new name of Toyota or Toyota City. It is located in Aichi Prefecture and is host to many of Toyota’s manufacturing plants.
Popular in Australia
Toyota is famous everywhere, especially in Japan and the US. These two countries are some of the most influential countries in the world, but Toyota is not the most popular vehicle in either country. Instead, that title goes to Australia. Toyota has been the number one selling car brand in Australia for over 17 years, accounting for nearly 20 percent of all automobile sales. Currently, the Toyota RAV4 SUV is Australia’s top-selling vehicle, beating every other car on the market.
You may not have known these fun facts about Toyota, but that doesn’t mean you are unaware of how influential the company is in the automotive industry. Toyota is so influential that it’s able to encourage more people to buy new cars over older ones simply by stopping production and sales of older vehicles’ spare parts. Thankfully, at Northwest Team Yota, we have plenty of Denso parts for Toyota, so you can take care of your older Toyota models and hold off on that upgrade.
