So far so good , it does make steering my 96 Tacoma a little harder meaning the power steering feels less powerful you could say but it’s definitely drivable on trails and dirt roads . Turns are no problem. I am installing one on a friends truck soon . I replaced both cv axles , seals, and resealed my oil pan while I had it apart

Honestly the most surprising upgrade you can do quick results and solid performance installed and instantly felt more successful and secure my ability to take my Toyota off trail and can do way more than I thought was possible buy this you won't regret it

Spartan locker for Toyota 7.5 differential

Put this unit in my 2wd 5 lug manual transmission Tacoma. Pros: The truck is so good off-road now. The difference is shocking! I took the truck up a muddy hill behind my house that it wouldn’t go up before. On worn out tires too! The locker is very good quality! Easy to install, but you better have some mechanical ability and watch plenty of videos. Cons: Really changed how the truck drives on the road, but that is to be expected with this type of locker. I took it up a curvy mountain road which I usually hit pretty hard. These trucks handle amazing for a pickup btw. I noticed in the turns while on the throttle the front end wanted to push. So it has kinda lost its Miata feel which makes me sad. Another trade off to consider. It can make some god awful popping noises if you aren’t careful on pavement. I read up on some forums and realized that I needed to change my driving style to avoid binding it up on pavement. Pretty annoying sometimes honestly, but that’s one of the trade offs. The instructions were a bit vague in some areas. My booklet had instructions for three different vehicles. The section for my Toyota wasn’t even labeled. Also there should really be a section about how to drive with the locker and it’s behavior on pavement. There should also be some information on break in time and recommend gear oil to run in the diff. There is some useful information about tire pressure and tire diameter. Equal tire pressure and diameter is a must! Overall: I’m pretty happy with the improvement in traction. I always hated having an open diff even though it’s not an off-road truck. There have been so many times where having this locker would have saved my tail. I’m still deciding if the driving characteristics are worth it. I may end up going back to the open diff. I know that I’ll be loving it in the snow. Sucks that there aren’t really any options for us 7.5” guys as far as limited slips and selectable lockers go.

Great budget locker

This is a very nice locker for the money, it performers well and was easy to install. My spider gears went bad and putting this in and doing away with them was a lot cheaper than replacing them. Now we will just have to see if it holds up.
